World Museum Attraction

World Museum Attraction – an unusual journey through millennia

Introduction 🦖

Imagine a place where dinosaurs, Neanderthals, Thracian gods, medieval knights, rockets, and wartime artillery coexist on a few acres amidst native nature – that's exactly what the World Museum offers. This unusual "open-air museum" is an experiment by the local community that goes beyond classical museum concepts. If you love strange, fun, and slightly crazy ideas – this place might impress and surprise you.

How to get there

  • The place is in Novo Selo village, Stamboliyski Municipality, Plovdiv Province.

  • The most convenient way is by car: via "Trakia" highway → exit at Tsalapitsa → road to Novo Selo. This is the most recommended option, especially if you are coming from Sofia or Plovdiv – returning by public transport can be difficult, especially on Sundays.

  • There is free parking in the village near the museum.

What not to miss

The museum is a true mix of eras and styles – here are some of the things worth seeing:

  • Figures of dinosaurs and archaic animals – a return to prehistoric times.

  • A "cave" with models of Neanderthals around a fire – an impressive experience, especially for children.

  • A statue of the Thracian god Heros, on horseback, as well as other elements related to Thracian mythology.

  • Medieval castle and knights – a bite of "fantasy-history."

  • A rocket, artillery from World War I and II, and other military exhibits – an attraction for lovers of military-historical and eccentric items.

  • Green space, natural environment, barbecue area, and seating, making the place suitable for relaxation, not just sightseeing.

Important: The museum was built voluntarily by local residents with donations and labor – this adds charm and authenticity but also means that maintenance can sometimes be inconsistent.

How much time do you need

To explore everything calmly – models, statues, and thematic zones, plus enjoy the surrounding nature – plan about 1.5 – 2 hours. If you want to take photos, have fun with friends or family, use the barbecue area – set aside up to half a day. In good weather, this can turn into a pleasant half-day outing.

What's nearby (for a combined trip)

If you decide to take a broader excursion, there are several interesting places around Novo Selo / Stamboliyski – you can combine your visit as follows:

  • Krichim Palace – a few kilometers from Novo Selo: a beautiful old residence, suitable for lovers of architecture and walks.

  • For nature and Rhodope interest – Ustinski Waterfall and several smaller attractions are nearby, suitable if you want a mountain feel.

  • If you wish – local restaurants and eateries in the vicinity (Novo Selo / Stamboliyski / Krichim village) – a good idea to combine the walk with lunch or dinner.

Practical tips and impressions

  • The place is best visited by car – public transport is possible, but with logistical complications, especially for the return trip.

  • Bring water, comfortable clothing, and shoes – the terrain and outdoor exhibits can be rough and uneven.

  • If you go with children – they are usually impressed by the dinosaurs, caves, and knights. It is advisable to plan a walk that includes a break – the museum is both fun and... a bit wild.

  • Realistically – don't expect a "luxury museum" with lighting, descriptions, and all amenities. Here, the charm lies in the idea, the effort of the local community, and a dose of eccentricity. Some visitors previously shared that some of the figures are a bit old, the colors faded, and the maintenance – not ideal.

  • Nevertheless – precisely this rawness and naturalness are part of the experience: the feeling of a "park of wonders and history," built with love by people from the village.

Who is it suitable for

The World Museum is ideal for:

  • People who love non-standard, unusual destinations.

  • Families with children looking for fun and a little "adventure" outside the city.

  • Groups of friends looking for a place for an excursion, photos, laughter, and strange stories.

  • Lovers of history, myths, fantasy, as well as people who highly appreciate the combination of "folklore + creativity + free spirit."
