Bigora

🌿 Introduction

Bigora (or Bigoro) is a karst waterfall located above the village of Zverino, in the heart of Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park. It is unusual – its width is greater than its height, and the water spills over mossy travertine terraces, creating a green, soft, and almost fairytale-like scene. Even when it is "moody" and the water flow is low, the place remains beautiful and photogenic.

🚗 How to get to Bigora Waterfall

Starting point:

The northern part of Zverino village, along "Hristo Botev" Street.

Distance and route:

About 6–7 km one way along the Zlatitsa River

The route follows a wide dirt road, well-marked with white-red-white or red stripe markings

There are detours in places where previously it was necessary to cross the river

Is it suitable for children?

Yes – the route is easy and pleasant, suitable for children over 5–6 years old.

Can you go by car?

With a high-clearance vehicle, you can get significantly closer to the waterfall.

🕒 How much time you'll need

Hike: about 1 hour 45 minutes – 2 hours one way (leisurely pace)

Minimum time at the location: 30 minutes, but you'll likely want more – for photos, for listening to the river, for that feeling of being in a green cathedral.

1. The waterfall itself

Height: about 7 m

Width: about 10 m

Type: karst, on travertine – hence its name

Even with low water, the moss and rock formations create a unique sight.

2. The small water cascades along the way

The Zlatitsa River offers numerous mini waterfalls and water terraces – great for photos and short breaks.

3. The green mossy terraces

This is Bigora's characteristic "signature" – the soft, bright green travertine formations that make the place so distinctive.

Best time to visit: spring after rain or early summer

Footwear: light hiking shoes, as the terrain is damp

Be careful on wet moss – it's slippery

Bring water and light food – there are no shops along the route

If the river is full, use the detours
