Where is it?
The Deaf Stones are located in the heart of the Eastern Rhodopes, near the village of Malko Gradishte. You can get there by car by following the main road from Haskovo in the direction of Kardzhali. Once you reach the village of Malko Gradishte, there is a well-marked trail that will lead you to the stones themselves. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes, as the trail passes through slightly steep terrain, but the views you will see along the way will certainly compensate you.
What not to miss
When you reach Gluhite Kamani, you will be impressed by the numerous rock niches carved by the ancient Thracians. Don't miss the largest of them, which is believed to be the burial place of an important figure from the time of the Thracians. In addition, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The place is known for its peculiar acoustics — some say that they hear strange sounds here, or even that silence has its own melody.
How long does it take
A visit to Gluhite Kamani usually takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on how much time you dedicate to each part of the complex. The walk from the village to the stones is about 30 minutes one way, and exploring the cult complex itself can take another hour. If you decide to stop for a picnic and enjoy nature, you can easily spend a whole day at this mystical place.
Fun fact
According to a local legend, the Deaf Stones got their name because no one there could hear people's shouts and noises. The place was so quiet and mystical that the ancient Thracians believed the souls of the dead inhabited the stones and guarded an eternal silence. Even today, some visitors claim to feel a strange calm and often hear how "silence" is louder than any sound!
