Kovachevitsa is one of the most magical spots in Bulgaria – an architectural and historical reserve that will transport you back in time and make you feel like you're part of a Renaissance fairy tale.

🛣️ How to get there

The village of Kovachevitsa is located in the Western Rhodope Mountains, about 24 km from Gotse Delchev and 18 km from the village of Garmen. The road is mountainous, narrow, and winding, but that's precisely what contributes to the feeling of entering another world. The most convenient way to get there is by car – the journey from Sofia takes about 3.5–4 hours, and from Blagoevgrad – about 1.5 hours.


🏡 What not to miss

  • Stone houses with slate roofs – unique architecture preserved for over 200 years.

  • St. Nicholas Church – built in the 18th century, it is the spiritual heart of the village.

  • Cobblestone streets – just get lost in them, without a map, and you'll discover the most authentic atmosphere.

  • Rizova House and Pilareva House – some of the most emblematic Revival period homes.

A walk through the village can take half a day, but if you want to fully experience its spirit, it is recommended to stay at least one night.

  • Leshten – just 15 km away, another Revival period village, known for its clay houses and artistic atmosphere.

  • Gotse Delchev – a lively town with pleasant cafes and restaurants where you can experience the local spirit.

  • "Kanina" eco-trail – starts near the village and leads to picturesque views and waterfalls.

In Kovachevitsa itself, there are several authentic guest houses that offer homemade cuisine – beans in a pot, patatnik, kachamak, and homemade pastries. If you want a wider choice, in Leshten and Gotse Delchev, you will find restaurants with traditional Rhodope specialties and modern interpretations of local cuisine.

  • Optimal time: a weekend – one day for Kovachevitsa and one for Leshten and Ognyanovo.
