The Ladder

"Stalbichata" Cave is one of the most interesting and mystical places in the Iskar Gorge – a natural phenomenon that impresses with its sheer cliffs, mysterious galleries, and a sense of adventure.


Introduction and How to Get There

The cave is located in the area of the Lakatnik Rocks, near the village of Lakatnik, about 60 km north of Sofia. The place is easily accessible by car or train on the Sofia–Mezdra line. From Lakatnik train station, a marked trail begins, leading up to the rocks. The climb is steep but relatively short – about 40 minutes on foot. The trail is well-marked and offers beautiful views of the Iskar River.
