Borovo Oko


Lake Borovo Oko (Pine Eye) is one of the most romantic and well-maintained spots in Targovishte – a place where the city seems to slow its pace, and nature takes the leading role. Located in the park of the same name, established back in 1932, the lake is a favorite for walks, meetings, family moments, and quiet contemplation. The water lilies, trees, benches, and small bridges create a sense of coziness that is hard to forget.

How to get there


Borovo Oko Park is located in the southern part of Targovishte, just a few minutes from the center. Access is extremely easy - it can be reached on foot, by car, or by public transport. The area is well marked, and its proximity to the Nikola Marinov Art Gallery and the Dimitar Burkov City Stadium makes it an easy landmark for any visitor.

Route

The walk around the lake is easy, pleasant, and suitable for all ages. The paths are wide and well-maintained, and the route can be completed in about 20–30 minutes at a leisurely pace.
Along the way, you will pass:

  • small bridges with views of water lilies
  • shady benches, ideal for resting
  • the renovated area around the waterfall, which is particularly beautiful after the renovations in 2009–2010
  • the "Borovo Oko" restaurant, located literally on the shore

If you want a longer walk, the park's paths continue further into the pine forest – a place that recalls the area's original name: "Borovets."

The lake is small, but full of details worth seeing:

  • The water lilies — the symbol of the lake, which bloom around the bridge every summer
  • The swan-shaped pedal boats — a favorite attraction for children and a romantic experience for couples
  • The turtles and fish that swim in the lake during the warm months

The residents of Targovishte have chosen Borovo Oko Park as the symbol of the city — an idea proposed by students, who even planted flowers and painted benches to make the place even more beautiful.
