Dokuzak Waterfall

Dokuzak is one of the most enchanting spots in Strandzha – easily accessible, yet hidden amidst a green idyll. If you are looking for a short but memorable walk, this is your stop.

🏞 Introduction and Access

Dokuzak Waterfall is located only about 10 km from Malko Tarnovo and is extremely easy to reach. Traveling towards the village of Stoilovo, you will find a turn-off that leads you almost directly to the waterfall – no need for a long trek, and the trail is suitable for families with children. From Burgas, the distance is about 80 km, making it a wonderful day trip destination.


🌊 What not to miss

  • The waterfall itself – although only about 5 meters high, it is the largest and most abundant in water in Strandzha Nature Park. Its waters come from nine karst springs, which also explains the name "Dokuzak" (from Turkish – "nine springs").

  • The panoramic terrace – a shaped platform offering a magnificent view of the falling water curtain.

  • The shelter and barbecue area – ideal for a picnic or a short break amidst the cool forest.


⏱ How much time to allocate

For the waterfall itself, you will need about 30–40 minutes – enough to enjoy the view, take photos, and sit by the river. If you decide to combine the visit with other attractions in the area, allocate at least half a day.

  • If you return to Burgas, the choice of establishments is rich – from traditional to modern.

  • It is best to visit the waterfall in spring or early summer when the waters are most abundant.

  • Wear comfortable shoes – although the path is short, the terrain around the waterfall can be slippery.

  • The place is suitable for a picnic, so bring light food and water.
