Mary's Jump Waterfall

Momin Skok Waterfall is one of the most romantic and picturesque places in Central Bulgaria—a natural pearl hidden in the heart of the Emen Canyon. A combination of majestic nature, legends, and adventure, it is an ideal destination for a day trip or a weekend getaway.

Introduction and How to Get There

The waterfall is located near the village of Emen, about 20 km from Veliko Tarnovo. It is easily accessible – from the city, take the road towards Pavlikeni, then turn off towards Emen. In the center of the village, the Emen eco-trail begins, leading through the canyon and ending at the waterfall. The trail is well-marked and accessible to tourists with moderate fitness levels.

What Not to Miss

  • The waterfall itself – cascades from a height of about 10 meters into a picturesque pool, surrounded by sheer cliffs.
  • Emen Canyon – about 2 km long, with impressive rock formations and bridges over the Negovanka River.
  • The legend of "Momin Skok" (Maiden's Leap) – according to tradition, a maiden threw herself off the cliff to preserve her honor, which lends a special romance and mystique to the place.
  • Panoramic views – the viewing platforms along the eco-trail offer incredible vistas of the canyon and the river.

How Much Time to Allot

The hike along the eco-trail and visit to the waterfall takes about 2–3 hours at a leisurely pace. If you decide to enjoy a picnic or explore additional routes in the area, set aside half a day. The place is most beautiful in spring and autumn, when the water flow is strongest and nature is most picturesque.
