The bridge is named after Vulchan Voivoda – a legendary haidouk (rebel leader) about whom it is said that he financed its initial construction with his riches. The first bridge was wooden but was destroyed by the river. In 1908, a stone arch bridge was built, which still impresses with its architecture today.
