Krushuna Waterfalls

The Krushuna Waterfalls are one of the most magical places in Bulgaria – a cascade of water streams that flow down picturesque limestone terraces and form small lakes with blue-green water. They are part of the "Maaraat" nature reserve and are among the most visited natural attractions in the country.

Located near the village of Krushuna, close to the town of Letnitsa, the waterfalls impress with their beauty and unique karst environment. Here, nature has created a real fairy tale – the water flows down the rocks, forming numerous small waterfalls and pools that shimmer in various shades of blue and green.

How to get there

The Krushuna Waterfalls are easy to reach – they are located about 34 km from Lovech and about 190 km from Sofia. It is most convenient to travel by car, following the road to Letnitsa and from there to the village of Krushuna. In the village itself, there is a parking lot, and from there, the eco-trail begins, leading directly to the waterfalls. The trail is well-maintained and marked, making the walk pleasant and accessible to everyone.

  • The Main Waterfall – the highest and most impressive, with water falling from about 20 meters.
  • The small cascades and lakes – they create a sense of a fairy-tale world, especially in sunny weather.
  • The eco-trail – offers bridges, wooden stairs, and panoramic platforms that offer wonderful views.
  • Maaraata Cave – a karst cave from which a river springs, feeding the waterfalls.

How much time you will need

Walking along the eco-trail and exploring the waterfalls takes about 1–2 hours. If you want to enjoy the place at your leisure, take pictures, or have a picnic, set aside half a day.

In the area around the waterfalls, there are several small establishments and guesthouses offering traditional Bulgarian cuisine. In Letnitsa and Lovech, you will find a larger selection of restaurants where you can try local specialties.
