Zandana Cave
Zandana Cave is one of the most hidden and mystical natural spots in Bulgaria. Located in the area of Głożene village, not far from Teteven, it impresses with its mysterious atmosphere, raw beauty, and a sense of adventure. This is not a typical well-developed cave – Zandana is a place for true nature lovers who seek authenticity and tranquility away from tourist crowds.

How to get there:
The cave is located near Głożene village, at the foot of the Balkan Mountains. The village is easily accessible by car from Teteven or Yablanitsa. A short but picturesque route starts from the center of Głożene and leads to the cave. The path is relatively easy, but in some places it can be slippery, especially after rain. Markings are available, and the walk takes about 20–30 minutes.
How much time to set aside:
About 1–1.5 hours are sufficient for visiting the cave and the walk to it. If you combine it with other attractions in the area, you can easily spend half a day or even a whole day.
What not to miss:
Zandana Cave is not large, but it is extremely interesting. Its entrance is wide, and the interior is cool and dark, which creates a sense of adventure. The walls are covered with natural formations, and the light penetrating from outside beautifully highlights the relief.
The most interesting thing is that the place is almost untouched – there is no artificial lighting, railings, or concrete paths. This makes it ideal for people who want to experience the true atmosphere of a mountain cave.
Practical tips:
Bring a headlamp or flashlight – it's dark inside.
Wear sturdy shoes, as the terrain can be slippery.
Bring an outer garment – the temperature in the cave is low even in summer.
Visit during dry weather to avoid mud and wet sections on the trail.

Interesting places nearby:
A few kilometers from the cave is the Głożene Monastery – one of the most beautiful and dramatically situated monasteries in Bulgaria, perched on a rocky ridge with an incredible view of the Teteven Balkan Mountains.
There are also numerous eco-trails in the area, including routes to Kamen Lisets peak and other panoramic viewpoints.
The town of Teteven is also nearby – a great place for a walk, visiting museums, or simply relaxing amidst nature.
Where to eat:
In Głożene village, there are several small taverns and guest houses that offer home-cooked food. In Teteven, the choice is greater – restaurants with traditional Bulgarian cuisine, grilled dishes, soups, and local specialties. The area is known for its delicious meat dishes and homemade desserts.
Why visit Zandana Cave:
Because it is a place that offers a true sense of adventure and closeness to nature. Here there are no crowds, no noise, no artificial elements – just silence, coolness, and raw beauty. Zandana Cave is ideal for a short walk, for combining with a visit to the Głożene Monastery, or as part of a longer mountain route.
