Razboishte Monastery
Welcome to one of the most mysterious places in the Rhodopes – Samodivskoto Praskalo! This magnificent natural creation is located near Devin and captivates with its crystal-clear water, gracefully falling amidst the green slopes of the mountain. Not only does the waterfall impress with its beauty, but it is also connected with legends of Samodivas (fairies), which make this place magical. If you love nature and are ready for a small adventure, this is the ideal destination!
Where is it?
The monastery is located about 10 km northeast of the village of Godech, in the municipality of Godech, Sofia Province. The place is not so easily accessible, but the journey is worth every step. There is a short and interesting hiking route starting from the village, which leads through a picturesque valley and reaches the rocks. From Sofia, you can reach Godech by car, and from there follow the road signs and continue on foot.
How long does it take
To explore the monastery and its surroundings, you'll need between 2 and 3 hours. The route from Godech and back can take about an hour on foot, depending on your pace. If you travel by car to Godech, add about 40 minutes for the entire journey.
What not to miss
One of the things you cannot miss is the monastery's unique rock church itself – something rarely found in other Bulgarian sanctuaries. Immerse yourself in the silence and admire the exquisite icons adorning the walls inside. Don't miss the river flowing at the foot of the monastery either – embraced by nature, it completes the sense of tranquility and connection with nature.
Fun fact
According to a local legend, the Deaf Stones got their name because no one there could hear people's shouts and noises. The place was so quiet and mystical that the ancient Thracians believed the souls of the dead inhabited the stones and maintained eternal silence. Even today, some visitors claim to feel a strange tranquility and often hear how "silence" is louder than any sound!
