The Wonderful Rocks
The Wonderful Rocks are one of those places that simply must be seen to be believed. The natural formations resemble a medieval castle built by nature itself, with towers, arches, and flowing colors. If you're looking for a spot that will make you feel like you're in a fairy tale, then you've come to the right place.
Where is it?
The Wonderful Rocks (Chudnite Skali) rock phenomenon is located near Asparuhovo village, Dalgopol municipality. One possible driving route to them is to take the Varna-Burgas main road, turn off at Staro Oryahovo towards Provadia, and then, after passing through Grozdyovo, continue towards Asparuhovo village. The rocks are located about 55 km from Staro Oryahovo.
What not to miss
First and foremost, don't forget to walk across the footbridge that runs right in front of the Wonderful Rocks, offering incredible views of them and the surrounding area. Photographers will discover dozens of unique vantage points, so it's advisable to bring a camera. Also, try to find the natural "arches" in the rocks – they are not only beautiful but also lend the place a mystical and ancient feel.
How long does it take
Exploring the Wonderful Rocks takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on your pace and how much time you spend taking photos. The place is relatively compact, so there's no need to plan a whole day for a visit. However, if you have time, you can also enjoy a walk along the shores of Lake Varna – just gather your strength for another short stroll if nature recharges you.
Fun fact
According to legend, many centuries ago, giants lived here and erected the rocks as a symbol of their power. It is believed that they wanted to show their gods their strength by raising these majestic stone "towers." Today, the Wonderful Rocks are home to many wild animals, including some species of eagles, who also love the tall "towers." So, if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of one of these proud birds seemingly "overseeing" the rock formations from above.
